This Election is almost over!

Soon, very soon, Election 2012 will be over!  I couldn't be happier.

I voted 3 weeks ago, so I have been done for that long, but still I had to be bombarded with all the election ads.  Seems I couldn't avoid it.  I rarely have my TV on, but still I saw more than enough of the ads.

I have started crocheting again.  I've been making a lot of scarves and fingerless gloves.  I had half a notion to get a table at the Knights of Columbus garage sale which is held on November 10, but I have done nothing to make it happen.  I don't have my own transportation and having to ask for help is becoming a giant issue to me.  I am so frustrated with not being able to jump into a car, okay, not jump, but still I am frustrated.

I am also thinking I probably wouldn't sell a darn thing and I don't want to go to all the trouble just to end up frustrated.  

I need to take some pictures so I can post them here.  I have a couple things I did take pictures of.

First is a cover for the bottom part of a water bottle I cut for some added support for this container.  I have made 3 of these and use one for Q-tips and one for toothpicks.  The scarf is made of Shimmer yarn by Red Heart, I think, and I made this for one of my grand daughters.  I had made a pair of fingerless gloves in the same yarn.

Where do these people (Republicans) come from anyway?

I am a Democrat so if that bothers you, don't read any further.
I have to get this off my chest.

Where do these men come from?
Todd Akin, (R-MO) "Legitimate rape rarely causes pregnancy."  He is on the Science and Space Committee.  

Jon Hubbard (R-AR)  "Slavery was a blessing in disguise for African Americans."

Paul Broun (R-GA)  "Science is a lie straight from the pit of hell."
He is on the Science and Space Committee.

Is anyone paying attention to anything making sense in Washington?  How is it that men with such archaic beliefs be on the Science and Space Committee?  Scares me.  How is it that there are people who voted them into office?  Makes me think that the people who voted for them didn't have a clue as to who these men really are.  

If Akin wins the election in Missouri, then the people from Missouri need to have their heads examined.  

I believe these kinds of beliefs of men like this is just the tip of the ice burg.  To think people actually believe this kind of stuff is downright scary and to have them holding public office is just plain insanity.  Paul Broun believes the world is only 9,000 years old.  Seriously?!

I stated I am a Democrat but don't think the party is much better than the Republican party, but they are closer to my way of thinking.  I believe our politicians and our Government are corrupt and our country is not the country I grew up believing in.  Some people are more insane than others.  Many seem to be Republicans.  I'm sure there are Democrats that have insane beliefs too.  I believe we must stop this insane stupidity.

Or is it too late?

Neglect

It appears I have been neglectful of this blog.
Or, I could say I have been on hiatus.
Either or both could be true.

I didn't do any crochet over the summer.  I had gotten sick in the Spring and I just fell away from  crocheting.  Now, I am back.

I've been making small items like scarves and finger-less gloves.  Nothing exciting or complicated. I just crochet what I feel like doing.  And I haven't been taking any photos either.  I can be so lazy.

Dishcloths and a cotton sponge

I love making dishcloths.  I like fast and easy projects for instant gratification,

I really need to do something about my photos.

I used a solid granny square pattern for these dishcloths.  So simple and quick.  They are about 8 inches square which, for me, is the perfect size.  I used a H hook and cotton yarn.

Potholders

Some potholders I made by making a chain and doing single crochet in the front and back loop of each stitch around, creating a double thickness.  No hot fingers with these babies.

Plain Jane they certainly are, but they work great.

This one I used a bobble stitch on.
Boy my pictures are terrible.

Bowl Cozy

I got tired of burning my fingers trying to remove bowls from the microwave, so I finally got around to making a cozy. This is a small bowl but one I use alot. No more burnt fingers! It's also a good way to use up those little bits and pieces of yarn I have lying around.

This is one of my soup bowls I made a cozy for.  I plan on making more of these.  I use these almost everyday for soups and for the 3-2-1 Cake.  Makes life so much easier.

Kit Kat Purse

I made this cute purse for my grand daughter's birthday, which just happens to be my birthday too, which I just love that I share my birthday with one of my grand kids.

This Kit Kat Purse was so much fun to make. I didn't have any hot pink yarn so had to use the pink instead but it still looks cute.










I used felt for the lining instead of fabric because I am not really a sewer and don't have any fabric on hand, so buying a package of felt seemed to be a good substitute. It is easy to work with and no hemming.

I cut the lining in one piece so I wouldn't have to do so much sewing, and maybe I should have done it the other way, but that's the way I did it.  Next time I will cut two pieces out.

My stitching was very sloppy as I was in a hurry to get this done just hours before the birthday party, but seriously, no one is going to look that close at it. At least I hope not.

I think I will use felt to line more purses I intend on making for my grand daughters since it is so easy.

I know my pictures are crappy. I have a cheap camera and add the fact I am not a photogapher and this is what I end up with.

Another Spiral: Crochet till you're dizzy

As I started this, I was thinking, there is no way I am doing this right, but it came out right the first time! There are times I translate the instructions of a pattern in a tad bit different way then the author intended and I come up with a version that just doesn't work. Has that ever happened to you?

I will be making more of these. I have made a few that I didn't take pics of.

More dishcloths

Made these last week.
I'm in a kitchen theme kick right now.

The dishcloth on top, the green one, is called Sylvan Star and is found on the Lion Brand website under the free patterns.

The other two are called the Ladder Stitch Dishcloth and I found the pattern here.
I love the pattern, it's so easy to do, but I find the holes to be too big for my liking. I am thinking of using the pattern for curtains for my kitchen or bathroom. I really need to make these curtains but can't decide on a color.

Spiral Dishcloth

As long as I have been crocheting, I have never done the spiral crochet with 3 colors, so I finally set myself down to give it a try. This was relatively easy and I found it fun to do. I will probably make more of these soon.



I just checked and I find I didn't write down anything about the pattern, or even the hook size I used.

My intention is to take better notes as I make different things so I can exactly reproduce them in the future, but it hasn't become a habit yet. I will have to keep working on that.

Crochet for the kitchen

More yarn destashing, this time it's cotton. Made scrubbies and dishcloths. I'm playing with the idea of doing a craft bazaar this coming fall and I am starting now to build up a supply. I think it is hard to know what will sell at a craft show. What I like to make and what people are interested in buying could very well be two different things.

Kitchen items I would think would be a pretty safe bet.

I love crochet and I lose sight of the fact that other people don't feel the way I do about it. I know when I make dishcloths for my friends and family they love them, but would they buy them? In any case, I enjoy making them and if nothing else I will have plenty of gift items made if they don't sell.

Bobble Headband

I'm using up my scrap yarn so I've been making headbands/earwarmers and I made this one for my grand daughter. Could have been a bit smaller. I don't seem to be able to gauge the size for headbands.

I used Bernat Premium and followed this pattern.
